I suppose I see where we are right now like this: the media and political parties refuse to call racists, racist or bigots, bigots. They editorialise as if racists have a point and the deaths and destruction being brought about by the persecution of vulnerable people is their regrettable but just dessert. Girard would say this is the beginning of a violent catharsis only after which progress can begin to be built again.

The problem I see is that no amount of individual violence and death and destruction appears to be enough, that the catharsis our society appears to be demanding is huge, extraordinarily deadly (for people like me) and on its way. It feels like a collective explosion of violence towards minorities and vulnerable people is what is being asked for – a massacre, a mass murder of progress and the people who demanded it and the institutions embodying political power in the UK are explicitly facilitating this journey. Especially and including Labour because they have the power to challenge this and are doing NOTHING at best and explicitly persecuting the vulnerable where they can in the name of populism. {read}
