Bought ten years ago as a holiday home, the plan grew into something much bigger. The cottage hadn’t been touched since the 1950s, and by the time demolition stopped, only the front wall and a gable were left. Sat on soft ground next to the river, the new build needed 24 steel piles driven 10 metres down to the chalk bed, and a missed bat survey delayed the whole thing by a year and a half.
